11 Dec Pellegrini: No plans to spend big
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has stated he has no intention of strengthening the squad in the January transfer window.
City have struggled without their captain Vincent Kompany and striker Sergio Aguero both of whom will be sidelined from the encounter against Swansea City.
Fernando, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta are also ruled out but Pellegrini sees no need to plan a spending spree in January as they will be stronger once his key players recover from injury.
“I think we have a squad that is the best in this moment. There are no plans to make changes,” he told reporters.
Pellegrini has also urged Raheem Sterling to add more goals to his game and says playing with the likes of Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva will only serve to help his development.
“Raheem always works very well from the first day until now,” he said.
“One of the most important things is his age – he’s just 21 so he has a lot of years to improve.
“But playing with Kun, Yaya and David every day is important for a young player.
“Raheem is doing what we expect but he must keep improving – he can’t be a player he just scores 11 goals as he did another season. I hope going forward he will score more, he will take the best solution more often.
“He’s not just a striker but one of his targets must be to improve the amount of goals he scores every season.”
