A surviver of the Munich air crash involving a talented United side coming back from European cup duty. Charlton became the driving force in Sir Matt Busby’s rebuilt United team that would win the league in ’65 and ’67. The latter title set them on the road to European cup glory at Wembley in 1968 with a 4-1 win over Benfica. However, all of his achievements in domestic football never matched the ultimate high on the 30th July 1966 at Wembley stadium. England defeated Germany by 4-2 after extra-time to win the World cup. Charlton also picked up the Ballon d’Or in a never to be forgotten season as one of England’s true greats.
