Stokes suspended for social media rant

Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has been suspended by the club for two weeks over comments he made on Twitter.

Stokes tweeted his disappointment at being left out of Celtic’s side to face Inverness CT in the Highlands on Sunday.

The Republic of Ireland international later apologised.

Manager Ronny Deila took a dim view of the statement, describing it as ‘disrespectful’ to his team-mates. The club have since taken disciplinary action and suspended him.

It adds fuel to the fire of reports that Stokes could be set to leave Parkhead during the transfer window, with Cardiff City reportedly interested in the 27-year-old.

Stokes has made just one start for Celtic all season.
