Ciftci will find out if he is successful in their challenge on Thursday at a disciplinary tribunal.
The 23-year-old is already ruled out of the Scottish League Cup final but could miss out the replay and the Premiership match.
The SFA’s compliance officer offered Ciftci the suspension after TV replays allegedly showed the Turkish striker reacting to a challenge from Scott Brown in the Scottish Cup quarter-final draw with Dundee United.
The Celtic midfielder was adamant that Ciftci “blatantly kicked him in the head”, saying “I felt a boot against my face”.
The Dundee United striker has been caught up in controversy recently as the SFA’s charge of him striking Inverness CT defender Gary Warren in the back of the head was “not proven” by the Judicial Panel.
Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon said he was unsurprised that they had decided to appeal the ban.
“Am I surprised they’ve decided to appeal? No, he’s got history of doing that. Hopefully both teams can get their best players out and see who is the best team.”
