31 May Erwin: Mohsni is an embarrassment to Rangers
Ian Baraclough’s men were worthy winners in the end beating the Light Blues 3-0 at Fir Park on Sunday to make it a resounding 6-1 aggregate victory, which preserved Motherwell’s Premiership status and consigned Rangers to Championship football for another 12 months at least.
However, ugly scenes after the 90 minutes marred the contest. Erwin pushed Mohsni after the Tunisian refused to shake the striker’s hand and then Mohsni punched and kicked Erwin before a melee broke out.
Both of the players were sent off as was Motherwell’s Fraser Kerr. Erwin told BT Sport:
“I tried to shake his hand and wish him all the best and he’s told me to f**k off. I pushed him away and he has reacted badly.
“A player at a club at that level should not be acting like that it’s embarrassing for him and the club.”
A mistake by Cammy Bell after he punched Marvin Johnson’s deflected effort into his own net gave the Steelmen the opener before Lionel Ainsworth fired in the second and substitute John Sutton scored a late penalty to inflict more misery on the Light Blues.
And Erwin, who admitted to supporting Rangers as a boy, was delighted to keep the Fir Park outfit in the division.
“Did we deserve to win over the two legs? Yeah, we battered them. We were a class above them home and away.”
“It’s brilliant I supported Rangers as a young boy but Motherwell is the team for me. I’m just glad I could keep them where they belong. Rangers can wait their turn.”
