McNamara hopeful of Cup upset

McNamara hopeful of Cup upset PLZ Soccer
Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara has set his sights on causing a huge upset in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.

The Arabs haven’t won the competition since 1981 and go into the match with the Hoops as underdogs with a few names conspicuous by their absence.

Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong left Tannadice in the January transfer window for Celtic Park though they will be cup-tied for Sunday, while Nadir Ciftci is suspended.

Despite the loss of key players McNamara is hopeful of causing a Cup upset.

“It’s always a big ask regardless of who’s missing ,” McNamara said.

“Celtic are a major force which they’ve shown by coming in and taking two of our players in the window. My job is to make sure we have other players in there that can fill the gaps and make sure we can compete.

“I’m confident we can put a good show on and hopefully cause an upset.

“It’s a different game, it’s a cup final it’s what kids and players dream about. It’s a chance to play in your national stadium. Last Sunday should not come into their thoughts or revenge it’s what about happens this Sunday.”
