Celtic striker Anthony Stokes admits he is bemused at the SFA’s decision to let Dundee United attacker Aidan Connolly off with what he perceives to be a dive.

Connolly tumbled to the ground in the box under pressure from the Irishman before Nadir Ciftci converted the spot kick.

Stokes was adamant there was no contact between the players and believes retrospective action should have followed for Connolly, citing Celtic winger Derk Boerrigter’s two-game ban for simulation as an example.

“I know for a fact I’ve not touched him,” Stokes said.

“He’s seen me, I was actually going to make a tackle and from one of the camera angles you can see I’ve gone to put my foot in but I’ve pulled it away.

“He’s already on the way down so it’s a strange one for me because there was no contact.

“It’s gone to whoever’s reviewing the situation and how they can come away and say that he’s not dived is beyond me because I know that I haven’t made contact with him.”
