Warburton: I’ve no issue with Stubbs

Rangers boss Mark Warburton has moved to defuse the war of words between himself and Alan Stubbs.

Warburton was irked by comments from the Hibernian manager who was quoted as saying it was an easy job to manage Rangers.

The former Brentford boss hit back suggesting Stubbs should keep his mouth shut and focus on his own club.

Stubbs has since said he was misquoted but Warburton says he no longer considers it an issue.

Asked if he thought it was mind games ahead of Sunday’s clash at Ibrox, he said: “No, not at all. It’s finished now.

“I know Alan very well and he knows me. It’s water under the bridge. We’ve spoken before it will be no problem.

“Has it affected our relationship? If we are that childish then I think we’ve both got a problem. I’m sure we can rise above that and move forward.”

Warburton refused to divulge details about another player who they are “very close” to signing despite being linked with Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem.

And he says attracting players to the Championship club hasn’t been difficult.

“We’re very happy to get the boys from Spurs. We’re very close to another one,” he said.

“I think you just need to take one look at the training ground and Ibrox. You put the TV on and see 50,000 sellout crowd at Ibrox. The atmosphere, quality of pitch and the stadium – it’s not a hard sell.

“Our job is to find the right players who can deal with that. It’s a certain type of player who can deal with that environment.”

Hibs lost the opening day match to Rangers 6-2 in the Petrofac Training Cup but Warburton is expecting an altogether different test this time around.

“There’s no wounded animal. They know Ibrox is a tough place to come. I’m sure the message to their players will be don’t worry about the crowd,” he said.

“I expect a tough game against a very organised opponent. Both teams we’ll look at that first game and learn from that.

“It’s all down to who plays better on the day. Right now we’re in good shape and form. The players are hungry, focused and looking forward to it.”
