Stephen Robinson under pressure as Aberdeen face Rangers

The Football Show panel discussed whether a heavy defeat to Rangers at Hampden could cost Stephen Robinson his job at Aberdeen.

By PLZ Soccer,

Stephen Robinson's position at Aberdeen came under scrutiny on The Football Show, with the panel suggesting a heavy defeat to Rangers in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden could cost him his job.

Peter Martin, Alan Rough, Gordon Parks and Tam McManus discussed the pressure on the Aberdeen manager, whose side are three points off the bottom of the league. On Robinson's future, the line was blunt: "He knows it's coming."

Recruitment questioned

Robinson's signings drew particular criticism. The panel said his recruitment had filled the team with "bottom-six Premiership players". The show also looked at his cup record and at how Aberdeen fans view him, and one remark summed up the doubts about his fit at the club: "Aberdeen is not the environment for him".

The prospect of Aberdeen losing at Hampden was also raised, with the phrase "complete and utter apathy" attached to it.

Problems in front of goal

PLZ's Aberdeen reporter Kobe Henderson, who watches the side every week, said they get men into the box but "they can't do anything in front of goal".

Rangers still backed

Derek McInnes's Rangers were also under discussion, including their 2-2 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle, with the verdict that "the football was dire". It was said that "Rangers aren't what they think they are", but the whole panel nonetheless backed Rangers to win the semi-final.

Elsewhere on the show

The programme also covered Nicky Devlin, St Mirren v Hibs, described as "the game that football went to die", and Aberdeen v Inverness in the League Cup final at Celtic Park.

There was discussion of whether it is always Celtic who are badly run, of Neil Lennon and a player he had to coach all game, and of why so many players are now hooked at half-time, with five substitutes and less tolerance put forward as factors. Davie Provan, Big Billy and Neilly Mochan also featured.
