Giorgi Nemsadze has died aged 54. Peter Martin remembers the Dundee number 10 who was "absolutely majestic": a Georgian international who joined the Dark Blues at the start of the millennium alongside Claudio Caniggia, Zurab Khizanishvili, Fabián Caballero, Juan Sara and Barry Smith, was "an absolute delight" to watch, and was voted into the Dundee Hall of Fame. Plus Peter's own memory of a night out in Georgia with Alan Rough, Georgi and his friends: "a genius and a legend".

Somewhere in Dundee, whether it's a housing scheme or in a block of flats, there's probably a wee boy with a framed number 10 shirt of Giorgi Nemsadze on his wall, probably given to him by his dad and he's wondering how good he was as a player.
Well, let me tell you, having watched him, having commentated on Giorgi Nemsadze and the Dark Blues of Dundee, at a time at the start of the millennium where Dundee were signing players that some would look at and wonder how they managed to do it. Claudio Caniggia, Zurab Khizanishvili, Fabián Caballero, Juan Sara, playing alongside Barry Smith. And the number 10 was absolutely majestic. A Georgian with 69 caps, but when he got the ball, not only could he dribble, he could score goals, wonderful goals at that. And he was an absolute delight and no surprise voted into the Dundee Hall of Fame.
So to hear that Giorgi Nemsadze has passed away at the young age of 54 is an absolute tragedy. I know a lot of people in the Dundee area will be shedding a tear and looking back with some great memories of him strutting his stuff in the middle of the park. He always looked as if he had so much time on the ball. Great skill and just a joy to watch at the time.
I have my own special memory of Giorgi Nemsadze. Scotland were playing against Georgia in Georgia. Alan Rough, myself, and a number of journalists were invited to go for a night out with Georgie and his friends, and it was something we'll never forget. Roughy and I were bundled into the back of what can only be described as a Lada or a Skoda. It had no windows. The two guys who picked us up looked as if they were part of the Russian mafia. Roughy and I looked at each other and thought, "We're going to die in the middle of Georgia." It was incredibly funny and scary at the same time in equal measure. We turn up at this restaurant. There's Georgie with all his pals. Great to see him. Everybody was absolutely delighted.
And the funny thing was we were all around this big table. Must have been about maybe 25, 30 people and everybody as a mark of tradition and respect to Georgie had to have a shot in front of them and then pay tribute to Georgie and then down the shot. Now, me being a two-can Dan, that was dangerous, because I knew I would be absolutely bladdered within about one and a half minutes. But sure as fate we all managed to pay tribute to the great man including Roughy who had his own bit of fun with Giorgi Nemsadze. Both of them fabulous internationalists. But nevertheless, by the time I walked out of that restaurant, I was three sheets to the wind. But better for it. Having been in the company of a genius and a legend, watching him on the park was a joy. But to be in his company that night is something that...
