Derek Mcinnes' positive post match press conference following Rangers 4-0 win over St Johnstone at Ibrox. "There's going to be a lot made going back there." Derek McInnes after Rangers 4-0 St Johnstone at Ibrox (Kevin Kelsy 2, Ryan Naderi, Tochi Chukwuani): so dominant in the first half "that we're only a goal to the good at half-time", three goals in the second half when "we weren't as polished", why "we need to be more ruthless", and Wednesday's trip to Hearts, the club he managed last season: "Hearts have got such a strong home record."

Derek McInnes Post Match Interview Transcript (Rangers vs St Johnstone):

...It's quite ironic in the sense that we were so good and so brilliant at times in the first half and created so many opportunities that we're only a goal to the good at half-time. And obviously we don't want to let the frustration of those misses and missed opportunities and dominance filter into the second half. And I think half-time came at a bad time for us because the momentum, despite the conditions, some of the play was really good. I asked the players to be brilliant today, not just win the game, let's really commit to being as best as we can be, as good as we can be and I thought we were in the first half but we're just looking for, everyone was brilliant except the result at half-time because we should have been more in front and then St Johnstone as I say comes at a good time at half-time because let's see if we can correct a few things, make a few changes although there wasn't any real change in shape for them, it was a different approach, they played direct up to the big striker. They switched the player a bit quicker. And we were just a wee bit slow to react to one or two opportunities. And listen, we've no divine right to expect to get a 90-odd minute dominant performance in St Johnstone. They're a good side in their own right and they're doing well. So we had to come through that wee spell. We changed our back four just to see that through. And then we get the second goal. And from there on in, it was quite straightforward.

But ironically, we scored three goals second half when we weren't as polished and as clean as we were at work, but where two strikers still contribute and Gassama's created a brilliant opportunity for Tochi at the end. We scored three goals in the second half where we weren't as good, in the first half we were completely dominant and very, very good. We only got the one, so there's lots of learnings for us here, but I actually think that getting your strikers scoring goals, clean sheet, another one just chopped off and it was a horrible day for everybody out there. It was just important that we won the game. Yeah, but I think they know that themselves. You know, I can see the obvious at half-time, saying we need to be more ruthless. But I think Kelsy always gets good separation in the box between him and his defender. His movement's always been good, you know, we saw that before we signed him, and I like him in those sort of moments. And sometimes it's just that final decision-making. But, you know, you've got to know St Johnstone: every time you look back, St Johnstone will fill in the middle of the goal with bodies, and the keeper makes a couple of good saves. But there was, I thought we were a threat from set plays today, better than we've been as well, some good deliveries going in. So, by and large, I can't complain too much. We come through the game unscathed, we get boys on the pitch who have not had a lot of minutes. Obviously we win the game 4-0 and we get a lot of good for the game. I think what we have to concentrate on is the game. Obviously there's going to be a lot made going back there, but Hearts have got such a strong home record. We went last season unbeaten at home, and there's a reason for that.
