Alan Rough selects the best eleven players he played with at Hibs in a classic 4-4-2 formation. Scotland goalkeeper legend Alan Rough picks his all-time Hibs Best XI — and finds room for George Best alongside Pat Stanton, Andy Goram, John Collins and Gordon Durie.
Rough joined Hibs in the early 1980s after his Scotland 1978 and 1982 World Cup heroics with Partick Thistle. He played alongside (and trained against) two generations of Hibees — and on this list he also leans on his testimonial appearances to slip in some of the greatest names in British football.
ALAN ROUGH'S ALL-TIME HIBS XI:
🥅 GK — Andy Goram
🛡️ RB — Bobby Smith
🛡️ LB — Eddie "Shades" Shaddler
🛡️ CB — Pat Stanton
🛡️ CB — Jackie McNamara Snr
⚙️ MF — Paul Kane
⚙️ MF — John Collins
🎨 MF — Ralph Callachan
⭐ MF — George Best (testimonial cameo)
⚡ ST — Gordon Durie
⚡ ST — Stevie Cowan
Plus a goalkeeper trivia challenge: name the four Scottish keepers who've played for Hibs in the modern era (the fourth one isn't who you'd think).
Who would YOU have included? Comment your own Hibs XI below — Roughie's not allowed any substitutes, so he'll have to take the flak.
