We're at Easter Road ahead of Hibs vs Aberdeen talking to George and Paul are diehard Hibs fans. We discuss David Gray’s sacking and who they want as Hibernian's manager.
Two diehard Hibees, George Nelson and his sidekick Paul, give their honest verdict at Easter Road on David Gray's sacking, who they want in the dugout next, and how they see the game against Aberdeen going.
Were Hibs right to sack David Gray?
For George and Paul, the timing was wrong. They argue Hibs should have stuck with David Gray at least until after the semi-final and made changes to his backroom staff in the summer instead, but with the support turning and the atmosphere at Easter Road "dead", the hierarchy pulled the trigger. Both are quick to defend Gray the man and the Hibs legend, reckoning his reputation survives a rough run of home defeats and that he will have no trouble landing his next job.
Who do the fans want as next Hibs manager?
No hesitation here: they want Neil Lennon back. Both are Lennon fans who remember going to games "expecting to win", the crowds he brought in and his refusal to accept draws as any kind of success, and they would take him back tomorrow, ideally alongside his own number two.
What kind of Hibs do they want to see?
Get the ball down and play football, not "hump it up the park". The pair want Hibs to find a clear identity like the sides they see doing it elsewhere, rather than drifting.
And the score against Aberdeen? With John Potter in interim charge, George goes a gloriously optimistic 3-1 Hibs, while Paul, the realist, brings it right back down to earth with a 1-1.
