David Gray post match interview following Hibs 1-2 Motherwell. "Extremely hard to take!" David Gray slams Hibs' defending that led to them losing the decisive winning goal for Motherwell.

David Gray didn't hold back after Hibernian's 1-2 home defeat to Motherwell on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership.

The Hibs boss felt his side were on top and should have taken all three points from their second-half display — which made the manner of the decisive goal all the harder to stomach. Gray called it "real naivety right across the board," stressing it wasn't aimed at any single player, and admitted Hibs "beat themselves" rather than being beaten. Sitting on zero points, he said it was "extremely tough to take."

David Gray post match press conference transcript:

"To sit here with zero points off the back of that second half performance and the way the game went is really tough to take. Uh, and the most frustrating thing for me is probably the manner in which the goal we concede. I think that's real naivety right across the board. And that's not just aimed at any individual player. People give the ball away.

That happens all the time in a really poor area. I know that. But there was a lot of things that could be done after that to stop the game to make sure that they have to beat us rather than us beating ourselves. And I felt that's what happened. So from a position of being on top, feeling like we should be the team with three points, we're now sitting here with none.

And I think that's extremely tough to take."
