'Unless someone takes Dermot Desmond out of the equation, the Celtic fans are in for more pain.' - The panel argue Celtic's real problem is not the manager but the boardroom: a majority shareholder who will not be budged, a board that chases profit over ambition, and a structure that needs wholesale change. Their verdict is blunt, Dermot Desmond must go.
Transcript:
My gut feeling at the moment is I think Martin might say enough is enough. Um I think there are as everybody has mentioned there are bigger problems at Celtic uh right now. Two new uh members to the board will not make a blind bit of difference. They're well known to the board.
So that's that's been cherry-picked. Um so that's not going to make any difference. I think Celtic's bigger problems quite simply. And again Glasgow is a place where rumors fly around all the time.
that rumor about Willie Haughey um looking at trying to get them bought out um has been going for about six months. It's been it's been doing the rounds for such a long time. It's well known uh that Willie probably has a fair bit of money. I think it might take some kind of uh group of wealthy people to oust Dermot, but unless someone takes Dermot Desmond out of the financial equation and takes control of Celtic, I think the Celtic fans are in for more pain, more indecisiveness, more uh chasing the profits rather than chasing the ambitions that the Celtic fans crave.
changing of the board is going to be very difficult with a billionaire who um has that arrogant streak about him and he will not be budged. The rest of the board is irrelevant because quite simply they just dance to his tune. Um so Dermot is the the main man and unless they can get people in there to take his share and take control of Celtic I think the Celtic fans are in for more pain. That is what the big change is.
The board is the problem. Every one of them needs to go and lots of other people in that in that club need to reassess their position.
