Motherwell 0-4 Aberdeen: Stephen Robinson's Aberdeen handed out a lesson in finishing at Fir Park, brushing Motherwell aside in the Scottish Premiership (SPFL) just days after reaching the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
Despite Motherwell's first-half possession, the Dons were clinical. Gavin Molloy opened the scoring from the edge of the box, Connor Ronan made it two early in the second half, a third arrived on the counterattack, and captain Kevin Nisbet rounded off the 4-0 win with a finish in off the post. A ruthless afternoon in Lanarkshire, and the perfect way for Robinson's side to head back up the road to Pittodrie.
Motherwell 0-4 Aberdeen Full Match Report Transcript:
Motherwell nil, Aberdeen four. Yes, you heard it right. The Dons handed the home side a lesson in finishing here. For all Motherwell's possession in the first half, it was Aberdeen who took the lead. Gavin Molloy with a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom of the net to give the Dons the lead at the break.
Sixty seconds into the second half, Connor Ronan hit a vicious right-foot shot. It took a little deflection, deceived the Motherwell goalkeeper, and suddenly Stephen Robinson's side were two-nothing up.
As Motherwell pressed looking to get back into the game, there was a counterattack. Au Malua [NAME UNCLEAR - VERIFY] was the man who got on the end of it, steadied himself at the edge of the box and hit a blistering right-foot shot into the roof of the net.
And that was it. All three points were going Aberdeen's way, and the icing on the cake, really: a long, hopeful ball through, and there was Kevin Nisbet to steady himself and just guide the ball past the Motherwell goalkeeper, in off the post, to make it four-nothing.
Bad day at the office for Motherwell here at Fir Park, but for Stephen Robinson, what a week: semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup and a big three points here in Lanarkshire to take back up the road to Pittodrie. Finished: Motherwell nil, Aberdeen four.
