Stephen Robinson post match interview: Aberdeen manager reflects on a "great week" for Aberdeen after a 1-1 draw at Hibs, a result that caps a punishing run of fixtures and keeps the Dons in the hunt.
How does Robinson sum up Aberdeen's week?
After a brutal schedule of travel and quick turnarounds, the Aberdeen manager is upbeat: his side come out of the mini-block two points off fourth and into a semi-final, and he is full of praise for players and staff who "worked tirelessly". A point, he says, was deserved by both teams at Easter Road.
Was the penalty soft?
No grievance from Robinson: "it was a penalty." He admits that defending too deep invites punishment, praises Aberdeen's threat on the counter, but accepts a mistake and a bad decision cost his side the lead.
What's next for Aberdeen?
Robinson wants his players to get a much-needed break after six games in 18 days, then two weeks of work before St Johnstone, a game he sees as a chance to climb into the top four if Aberdeen can beat "a very good St Johnstone side".
Transcript:
Stephen, it's it's been not a bad week. How would you how would you sum it up, including this match? Um, it's been a great week, Peter. Um, I think the fixture list was very very on the traveling, the turnaround, and um, we've managed to finish this mini block of games, two points off, fourth, and then a semi-final.
So, it's um, credit to the players and the staff. Uh, I think they've worked tirelessly to um, implement what we're trying to do and um, probably a point was was deserved by both teams today. Were you hoping that maybe Jack was a wee bit more street wise or did you have any grievance with the penalty? No, no, it was a penalty.
Um, yeah, it was a penalty and I feel if you you defend that deep, you're going to make a mistake and get punished at some stage of the game and the first half or line of engagement was higher. Um, I thought we played really well on the counter at times, some really good stuff, but um you're ultimately you're you're open to a mistake and and we made one and a bad decision and um we get punished for that. You've emphasized continually that you're working away in the background, building the squad, trying to get that rhythm into the team. How important will it be in this next couple of weeks?
You think you'll start to see an even greater curve and an upward turn? Yeah, I think first and foremost, the boys need a a break. Six games in 18 days. Um, you know, people underestimate the getting back at 3:00 and 4 in the morning and um, you know, not having a recovery day the next day because it's, you know, the the time and how how long it takes to get back up and down the road.
the boys have dealt with that, coping with that. Um, then we'll work really hard for the next two weeks leading up to the St Johnstone game and an opportunity to to go into the top four if we can if we can manage to win against the very good St Johnstone side.
