Kilmarnock miss THREE penalties as Aberdeen win the shootout to reach the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals. Kilmarnock 1-1 Aberdeen (Aberdeen win 3-1 on penalties) at Rugby Park - shootout drama and a big result for Stephen Robinson.
Kilmarnock v Aberdeen Scottish League Cup Match Report Transcript:
Aberdeen booked their place in the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup after winning a penalty shootout against Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock missed three penalties, so poor from 12 yards out. And Jack Milne stepped up with the decisive penalty to send the Dons through into the last four.
In the second half of the game, it was the Dons who actually took the lead in this match. A brilliant header back across goal from Kevin Nisbet put them one nil up. And then there was a crazy 60 seconds for Stephen Robinson's side. Daniel Happe was given a second yellow card, a red card, sent off for a tackle on Joe Hugel as he was bearing in on goal. And within that 60 seconds, a free kick floated into the box, found Tyrese John-Jules to equalise for Kilmarnock. And from there it was 11 against 10.
Kilmarnock really couldn't threaten the Dons goal and it went to extra time. And there was a great opportunity for Aberdeen to win it, with three, four gilt-edged opportunities within about the space of 30 seconds. But somehow, Kilmarnock managed to clear the danger. And then after 120 minutes, it went to spot-kicks. And Neil McCann will be absolutely furious with the standard of his penalty kick-takers. But for Aberdeen, they won't mind. They've won it in the penalty shootout. They're in the last four.
The only problem I have to say is a pitch invasion from the Aberdeen fans, which I am certain will get them in trouble. But for the Dons fans who were watching from the stands, they know now that they can look forward to a semi-final in the Premier Sports Cup. Finished here, Aberdeen going through in a penalty shootout win after it finished 1-1 after 120 minutes. We'll get the thoughts of Stephen Robinson after this match on the delight of reaching the last four, and Neil McCann reflecting on going out at the quarter-final stage.
