"I think it's the biggest exposed scandal in football history." Hugh MacDonald compares Rangers' EBT saga to Manchester City, found guilty on 114 of the 115 Premier League charges, and the £900m of "imperfectly registered" players at the heart of it.

See, we've witnessed it before. We witnessed it with Rangers. And the great thing about Rangers is much as what happened to Rangers whatever it was 12 14 years ago has been reshaped and there's been new narratives about like the narrative Rangers were relegated. Rangers weren't relegated. We know that didn't happen.
Rangers had to apply to get into the league and with the help of you know some very willing partners and some not so willing as we remember they got into the SPFL. Yeah. Whereas Gretna for example didn't when they were liquidated they went into I think it was the South of Scotland league initially. So there's things that get changed. Another thing was is a great EBT saga.
And the EBT saga is not about EBTs per se because everybody will shout, "But EBTs were legal and all that." Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The problem with Rangers was they had side letters, which the SFA and other clubs didn't know about. And then it was found in inquiry that all these players were, and I'll use my words carefully because that's the word they used, imperfectly registered.
Yes, that was the problem. And this is going to be another big problem for Man City. Is this imperfect, because that was the words that you used registration of the 900 million. 900 million is it's the it's the biggest I think it's the biggest exposed scandal in football history. Unless you're going to tell me something different.
Here's where the problem really bites and I listen to our football financial analysts talking really well about the financial elements and the legalese and all that kind of thing. Fundamentally, football's about fans going to watch their team believing that winning on a Saturday will help them up or down the table and whatever win things. This doesn't get resolved very quickly. What does the season hold? Season's already discredited.
Yes. So what does that mean then? And I think that's the greatest consequence. It has devalued, discredited, and put a cloud over the sporting integrity of let's put your sausages in a packet and give you that old-fashioned mythology that it's the best league in the world and pure. Well, the other thing about it there and there are three elements to this which is quite simply now that they've been exposed.
