Is it time for Danny Rohl to start the clear out at Ibrox. The Journos assess how many can stay and who goes. "Rohl needs to rebuild Rangers." Hugh McDonald, Gordon Parks and Peter Martin examine Danny Rohl's summer rebuild after a season Hugh calls "a catastrophic end" — and the Champions League windfall of £40-50 million Rangers have just blown. Which 3-4 players survive the cull? What does Rohl actually need to do this summer to turn it around?
⚫ HUGH McDONALD ON RANGERS' CATASTROPHIC SEASON:
"This is a catastrophic failure from Rangers. If Rangers had won the league, they would be right into the Champions League — so it's 40, 50 million pounds. The 16 million pound share issue, which nobody's talking about at the moment, would have been subscribed. It's a catastrophic end of season for Rangers."
⚫ GORDON PARKS ON ROHL'S SYSTEM PROBLEM:
"They don't know how to go forward. They don't know how to be absolutely ruthless. There's no system that he's using. I can't work it out. All he's really done is made them more difficult to get beat. He's solidified them a wee bit."
⚫ THE RANGERS SQUAD REBUILD — WHO STAYS, WHO GOES:
The panel debate who Rohl needs to keep and who needs to go. The keeper stays. The Romans (intelligent on the ball) stays. Connor Barron stays. Possibly Mikey Moore back on loan. Maybe Fernandes "if he improves." Otherwise — "I want most of them gone. I want maybe four, maximum of five."
⚫ ON ROHL'S BIGGEST PROBLEM — GETTING THEM OUT THE DOOR:
"Danny Rohl's biggest problem, if he is going to have to stay, how's he getting out the door and how's he getting them out? Because I don't see a stampede for any of them."
⚫ ON ROHL'S BODY LANGUAGE + DRESSING-ROOM CULTURE:
"He's got to deliver a message to the fans that's not Jimmy Tilleen. I want my manager to come in and say: we need to fight, and by the way, if you don't fight, you're out the door." The panel call Rangers' current dressing room "self-serving" and warn that the 49ers will struggle to fund another rebuild without Champions League money.
⚫ ON STEVEN GERRARD RUMOURS:
"It's crazy. Show me the stats that backs that up as a kind of masterstroke."
⚫ ON NEIL McCANN'S KILLIE SURVIVAL:
"Five points behind 10th place when he arrived in January — 17 matches later, they're safe. Has he had a Frank Lampard moment? Definitely. He's the perfect appointment. Got a great deputy in Billy Dodds."
⚫ ON ST MIRREN UNDER McLEISH:
"St Mirren are in big trouble. They were in trouble when Stephen Robinson left." The panel question Keith Lasley's appointment of the interim Craig McLeish rather than an experienced steady hand.
⚫ ON MOTHERWELL & JENS BERTHEL ASKOU:
"Askou has done an absolute terrific job. He's imposed his style, didn't need 14 assistants, really good talker — and aggressive with referees. He's transformed the mindset of the supporters."
⚫ ON THE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY-OFF — DUNFERMLINE v PARTICK THISTLE:
The panel pick Partick to win the return leg, with both expressing surprise at how Neil Lennon's Dunfermline gave away possession.
