Peter Martin wonders if there could be a rift between the Celtic manager Martin O'Neill and Cameron Carter-Vickers, or if it is yet another injury that has sidelined the centre-half. Alex Rae reckons European games will take their toll on Celtic and Hearts. Tam McManus believes the honeymoon is over for Alfred Johansson at Motherwell.

"I just felt they've left Martin exposed." Peter Martin, Tam McManus and Alex Rae on the weekend in the Scottish Premiership: Motherwell 0-2 Celtic and Benfica next, Rangers 3-1 Kilmarnock, Hearts 5-0 St Mirren and the title race, Aberdeen 0-1 St Johnstone and the pressure on Stephen Robinson, Dundee United 1-0 Hibs and Falkirk 1-2 Dundee. Live, Monday 12 October 2026.

Celtic: back on top, but Benfica on Thursday
Celtic won comfortably at Fir Park (Durán, Nygren) to go back above Rangers, who went top on Saturday. Tam on Kasper Høgh: "I don't think he's scored for Celtic since the hat-trick." And with Benfica in Lisbon on Thursday: "If they play with that back four, they're going to get ripped." Were Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales rested? And Peter on the board: "They've left him wide open to paper over the cracks of their complete ineptitude."

Can Hearts mount a serious title challenge?
Peter was at Tynecastle for the 5-0 win over St Mirren: "They were good." Calvin Miller and Josh McPake on the flanks, Claudio Braga "going from strength to strength", then Nordsjaelland on Thursday and Celtic at Parkhead next weekend.

Also: Ryan Naderi's double and Derek McInnes's second-half "post-mortem", Neil McCann's Kilmarnock "can't defend", the Jack Milne penalty at Pittodrie, Hibs two points off the bottom under Marink Reedijk, Steven Pressley's Dundee winning at Falkirk.
