Matt McGlone recalls death threat sent to him at Celtic Park
The Celts for Change figure talks about what taking on Celtic's old board cost him, from a lost relationship to a threatening letter and a night at a Glasgow taxi rank.
By Peter Martin,
Matt McGlone of Celts for Change has spoken about the personal price he paid for taking on Celtic's old board, including a threatening letter sent to him at Celtic Park.
Speaking on Straight Talk with Peter Martin, McGlone set out what the campaign cost him: a relationship, "lots of grief in the street", the letter, and a night at a taxi rank in Gordon Street when four men behind him planned to "do them in".
The letter
The letter sent to McGlone at Celtic Park carried the words "We know where you live". The threat he recounted in the interview went further: "We know where you live, we know what school your kids go to."
The conversation also covered a handwriting expert and a ripped suit, before turning to the incident in Gordon Street.
"The rebels have won"
The interview took in Brian Dempsey's line that "the rebels have won", and the friends McGlone found out about along the way. He was asked about the relationship the campaign cost him and whether he regretted it.
Despite everything, McGlone explained why the experience has still been "90% positive". Asked about a place on the Celtic FC board, the answer was "Not in a zillion years".
Family and the fight
McGlone also spoke about his family and his roles as "dad and papa", and was asked directly whether there is still any fight in him. Reflecting on his bond with the club, he said "Celtic can never leave you".
The interview was first published on Straight Talk in September 2026.
