What do we need to do to combat Old Firm hooligans? Gordon Parks doesn't hold back on the "Balaclava Brigade", the masked ultras he says are being allowed to run rampant in Scottish football, causing the disorder behind the decision to ban away fans from Old Firm games. Parks argues it's a Scottish government issue that needs legislation, that balaclavas should be nowhere near football grounds, and that our "greatest spectacle" has become "a complete embarrassment".

It's a snapshot of society. It's not just Celtic and Rangers, there's lower-league clubs in Scotland who've got the Balaclava Brigade coming in and causing antisocial problems, intimidating people that are just out to watch their team. There's an underbelly of supporter allowed to run rampant in Scotland, and I think it's a Scottish government issue, they have to bring legislation in. Balaclavas should be nowhere near football grounds. They have to make sure the police are in tandem with the football clubs to find solutions. There are solutions, they're paid to come up with things. The fact that our greatest spectacle, the one showcase we have in Scottish football that supersedes all and gets international coverage, is in a complete embarrassment. It's a snapshot of society, not especially the football, it's just we have an underbelly and a subculture of football fan in this country who are knuckle-draggers, and it's only going to get worse.
