"The two goals that Rangers give away are amateur." Dundee 2-2 Rangers: was it two points dropped for Derek McInnes? Dundee "excellent" in the first half, "the man for man, the press, very aggressive", Rangers better after the break, and the two goals they gave away: the flick back to the goalkeeper, and Dundee's equaliser after Fernandez played into Dan Neil ("slapstick"). From The Football Show LIVE, Monday 19 October 2026.

...that my week was going, you'd be amazed I'm able to smile.
Roughy, we're going to talk about a game that we... I should have gone to the game with you, but I think I'd circumstances beyond my control, but I'm going to talk about Dundee against Rangers because is that two points dropped, in the mind of you and Derek McInnes on the evidence of what you were watching?
Yeah. Well, again, that was a game of two halves, and I think it's been quite like that for Rangers pretty much through the course of the season. I thought the first half, I thought Dundee were excellent: the man for man, the press, very aggressive, and when they scored I thought, fair play, I felt as if they deserved that, Peter, over the balance of play and the way the game had panned out. And then in the second half, I think you saw what Derek was looking to get in the first half but didn't quite get. I don't know if that's because they'd come off the press a little bit in terms of physicality. Minsu get into the game, Gassama. And I just felt as if there was more combinations and they carried a bigger bigger threat.
However, the two goals that Rangers give away are amateur. They're amateur. You can't go outside, try and flick a ball back to your goalkeeper with the outside of your right foot, from Dujon. You expect better. And then obviously the goal, totally against the run of play, to equalise was slapstick. I know, obviously, I think people have analysed this goal to death, where Fernandez has the ball. He passes up a forward pass. He plays back to the six, who's deeper than him now, and then the six plays into the other six. So your two sixes are in essence deeper than your two centre-halves.
So when he turns, and don't forget, there's 70 minutes on the clock and you're playing in knowing fine well that the opposition are man for man and they're going to press you. So I'm not exactly sure... And obviously Dan Neil has to do better and protect the ball but the ball into him is ridiculous as well for me, because you're playing into an area when the guy's already jumped.
So even when Dan Neil tries to take the touch, his mis control has allowed the guy to pick his pocket, walk through to the goalkeeper and slot it in. So for me, in that case, I think Fernandez has to play forward. Nico has to go around to the keeper because it's double the distance to jump for whoever wants to press him which gives the keeper a lot of time to assess the situation. So the two goals that they gave away were avoidable and, as I said, it was, from Derek McInnes's point of view, a position of real strength. And again, we look at Celtic yesterday...
