Rangers have confirmed that Danny Röhl has parted company with the club and has moved to RB Salzburg as their new coach. So, eight months in charge, it all comes to an end. And the overall assessment for me is that Danny Röhl was a failure.

The stats back that up. 40 games, only 22 wins, 11 defeats over that eight months in charge. Two cup defeats to Celtic, which hit hard among the Rangers support. Yes, he did steady the ship after Russell Martin's debacle, but coming in he raised that expectation, made them more solid — but they were looking for the end product. The Rangers fans were looking for something to hang on to, and they didn't get it with him.

In his pre-match press conferences he was talking about, well, there's five cup finals in the post-split run, and he only delivered one win at the end when it was meaningless — because four defeats out of five is simply not good enough. Second is nowhere in Glasgow. Second is not good enough for Rangers fans. Third is completely unacceptable.

Many were looking at him and thinking, well, what is he going to do in that summer transfer window? Can he actually close the gap? Can he go past Hearts? Can he take the title off Celtic? The answer is we'll never know — because quite simply a lot of people thought he was working his ticket out. There were suggestions that this club and that club were interested in him, and eventually he's confirmed what everybody thought and taken up that job in Austria.

So overall, I don't think too many Rangers fans will be crying any tears that Röhl has left the building. It's now up to the new man in charge. Many expect the confirmation of Derek McInnes coming in as the new Rangers manager, and he'll have that summer to try and build — and then not only maintain the expectation but exceed it by taking the title off Celtic. That's what it's all about. Rangers have to win the title. The cups are a bonus. The Danny Röhl experience is over. It's a failure. And it's now on to Derek McInnes to try and turn things around.
