Celtic's transfer strategy 'gross negligence at boardroom level' after another European exit. Celtic fan Matt McGlone argues the Celtic board have been too slow in the transfer market and says they have lost all six of their nine recent qualifying ties through the first round. He believes the late-signings pattern since Martin O'Neill was told to rein it in has been a recurring strategy, and says last year's AGM confirmed it would not change.
"Rein it in." Matt McGlone on Celtic's transfer strategy: "pathetically slow at getting people in the door", why Martin O'Neill must have had a guarantee he'd be backed, and the European record: of nine years, "three were automatic qualifiers and six of them were to qualify through", "and we've lost all six." He traces it back to Peter Lawwell telling O'Neill to "rein it in" in 2003-04, a 23-year strategy, and last year's AGM. From Straight Talk with Matt McGlone, recorded in late August 2026, after the Champions League qualifying exit.
