Hearts 2-2 Rangers: PLZ's reaction from Tynecastle. "It was all about the sideshow" of Derek McInnes's return ("He did get pelters"), Kevin Kelsy's opener, Claudio Braga and Calvin Miller turning it round, a late headed equaliser from a free kick, and "a bit of friction at the end" between Wouter Vrancken and McInnes. Plus Celtic 2-2 Dundee United, Motherwell's dropped points at St Johnstone, the storm clouds over Pittodrie after Aberdeen 0-1 Falkirk, and the weekend's League Cup semi-finals. Wednesday 28 October 2026.
Hearts 2-2 Rangers Match Analysis:
Six games in the Scottish Premiership tonight. Four draws and two wins. One of them up at Pittodrie for Falkirk and the other one with Dundee at Dens Park. But here at Tynecastle, it finished Hearts 2, Rangers 2.
It was all about the sideshow of what treatment Derek McInnes was going to receive from the Hearts fans on his return to Tynecastle. He did get pelters, but it didn't really matter because it was what was happening on the field that was important.
Rangers took the lead through Kevin Kelsy after some slack defending by Hearts. But in the second half after that half-time team talk, Hearts came out battling. They got their equaliser in the game through Claudio Braga and then it looked as if they had the winner. Braga's shot somehow managed to go right across the face of goal. Took a slight deflection into the path of Calvin Miller who side-footed it into the back of the net. Just at that point... sensed as it was heading towards 90 minutes, Rangers were looking for the equaliser. Hearts were starting to tire. It's a rather soft foul. They got the free kick. Rangers floated that ball in and there was Maca to head it back across goal to get the equaliser.
There was a bit of friction at the end between Wouter Vrancken and Derek McInnes. Both of them didn't make too much of it in the after-match press conference. But nevertheless, both of them were determined to try and win the game. It didn't quite materialise.
Didn't really matter in the broad scheme of things because over at Celtic Park, Celtic drew 2-2 with Dundee United. But elsewhere I think Motherwell will feel they dropped points in that game when it looked as if they were going to steal them against St Johnstone.
But the big news is the storm clouds over Pittodrie where Stephen Robinson was witnessing Falkirk going up there to the Granite City and coming away with all three points. Undoubtedly there will be more moans and groans from the Aberdeen fans.

We'll assess everything on the Friday and look ahead to the weekend's Scottish League Cup semi-finals. One of them, of course, Hearts against Hibs and the other one is Rangers against Aberdeen.
But here at Tynecastle, well, it was entertaining. It wasn't great football. Four goals, two apiece in the end. Hearts two, Rangers two.
