‘Rangers board FULLY behind me!’ | Danny Rohl Press Conference | Rangers vs. Hibernian "The last 48 hours was unbelievable - the support from the board." - Danny Rohl
Two days on from the Old Firm defeat at Celtic Park, Danny Rohl confirms what every Rangers fan has been speculating about: the board are sticking with him. The German manager addresses his future, confirms captain James Tavernier is leaving, and pushes back on the narrative that his 200 days in charge have all been negative.
🔴 RANGERS BOARD BACKING:
Rohl on the conversations with Andrew Cavenagh and the Rangers board: "I think the last 48 hours was unbelievable, the support from the board. Everyone around me see a lot of positive things but we are also critical with ourselves. I had yesterday a conversation again with the club. Trust me, I'm very clear, especially after the last three weeks what we need to be top, top."
🔴 RANGERS CAPTAIN EXIT CONFIRMED:
For the first time, Rohl confirms what's been rumoured for weeks - James Tavernier is leaving Rangers: "With Tav we will lose the captain, and it means for us this is a big signal as well. We need new leaders, more leaders for the dressing room to set our standards - what we want in the training pitch, in difficult moments in the game. This is crucial and this is a great opportunity to work on this."
🔴 RANGERS FC DEFIANCE AND PASSION:
Asked about the criticism after Sunday's Old Firm defeat: "I'm so motivated, I have passion, I put all the negative things away. I must also say I got not just criticised - I got also some feedback in the direction like, we stick to you and we want to see you in the new season as well here, because we believe in you. This shows me that not everything was wrong in the last 200 days."
🔴 SFA REFEREEING DISCUSSION:
The club have spoken to the Scottish FA about the refereeing decisions in the Old Firm defeat. Rohl: "I have to apologise, was not perfect - they have the meeting today with them, and then will be interesting how the explanation is about the situation we had. Some excuses and points they made - it's also the referee and not the club view. But it's important we have this conversation with them to get really feeling why and why not."
🔴 NEXT FIXTURE:
🆚 Rangers vs Hibernian - Tuesday 13 May 2026 - Ibrox
A must-win to keep Rangers above Hibs in the table. With Tavernier confirmed as leaving, this is one of his last home games as Rangers captain.
