😡 Frustration and Pressure
Jimmy Thelin admitted that frustration and anger are running high among Aberdeen fans, and he shares those feelings himself. With just one point and no goals scored so far this season, expectations have not been met. He acknowledged that the team has been playing stiffly, with players clearly feeling the weight of pressure, particularly in the opening stages of matches.
🔑 Costly Mistakes
Thelin pointed to key errors that have hurt the team at crucial times. Conceding a throw-in goal just before half-time and then a corner early in the second half were examples of lapses in concentration that Aberdeen simply cannot afford. When goals are hard to come by, he stressed the importance of keeping clean sheets and avoiding cheap mistakes.
🧩 Lack of Fluency
Dundee United looked confident and structured, while Aberdeen lacked rhythm and fluency. Thelin admitted that the team is struggling to find its flow and that the relationships on the pitch are not yet clicking. He noted that the pressure of poor results is creating a vicious cycle, and breaking that chain is now essential.
🌟 Leadership Example
One bright spot was Stuart Armstrong, who stood out for his composure and experience. He constantly demanded the ball and set an example for others to follow. Thelin highlighted Armstrong as the type of player Aberdeen needs right now — someone willing to take responsibility and play with calmness under pressure.
🆙 Nothing to Lose on Saturday
Looking ahead, Thelin believes Saturday’s match is an opportunity to reset. With the team bottom of the table, he argued that Aberdeen now have “nothing to lose and everything to win.” He hopes that this mindset will allow the players to shed some of the tension in their performances and step out with greater freedom and determination.
🤝 Connection with Fans
Thelin was open about the emotions in the stands, recognising the club’s long history and how much it means to supporters. He admitted that recent performances have not been good enough, but insisted the team is working hard. The ultimate aim, he said, is to put smiles back on the fans’ faces by showing fight, unity, and improved performances.
💪 Belief and Responsibility
Despite the difficult start, Thelin urged fans not to give up. He stressed the importance of resilience in football and in life, and said he has strong belief in his players’ ability to turn things around. Squad rotation, such as leaving out Clarkson and Duk, was explained as a way to keep players fresh for the run of games ahead.
