St Mirren manager Craig McLeish says "it's not good enough" after a 5-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday 10 October 2026. He says St Mirren "just shoot ourselves in the foot", conceding two avoidable penalties and making individual errors for the other three goals, and calls Hearts "excellent". He reveals St Mirren lost Nico in the warm-up but refuses to make excuses.

What did Craig McLeish say after Hearts 5-0 St Mirren?
McLeish says his side lost "individual battles, individual duels" in the first half and weren't "alert" to loose balls. He wants St Mirren to get back to what brought them success at the start of the season, when they were "really difficult to play against" and "really aggressive". "You can't come to places like this and expect to just play football from the first minute. You have to earn that." He says nobody "threw the towel in" and that, ultimately, he has to rectify it.

Will St Mirren change their style of play?
No. McLeish says "I'm not going to be quick to go and rip everything up". St Mirren already went "bigger from goal kicks", longer and more direct against Hearts, and they approach games "differently every week". But "you also have to earn the right to play the way that we want to".

Why did St Mirren struggle at Tynecastle?
McLeish points to "a lack of belief and confidence" early on, with "a relatively young group, relatively inexperienced group": maybe seven or eight of the starting line-up hadn't played at Tynecastle before. He wonders whether losing Nico and the atmosphere "spooked us a little bit", but notes St Mirren have done well against Rangers and Celtic, and says "I'm not going to make excuses".

Who scored for Hearts?
Laurent Mendy, Calvin Miller with two penalties, Claudio Braga and Josh McPake.
