I am 21 years old and still staying with my Mum and Dad.

I never expected to make my debut for Motherwell in a team that contained the likes of Ged Brannan, Stevie Hammell, Lee McCulloch and Andy Goram in goal.

Billy Davies was the manager and he mentioned to me on the Tuesday to be ready for the weekend I might be in the squad. I actually thought he was winding me up but, sure enough, on the Friday he phoned my Dad at home.

I thought I had done something wrong and never thought he was telling my Dad I was making my debut. When my Dad passed the phone over to me, the gaffer was short and sharp. “Get to bed early, you are playing tomorrow against Rangers at Ibrox!”

I can remember Rangers had Stefan Klos, Fernando Ricksen, Jorg Albertz, Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann and Michael Mols in the team and we lost 2-0.

The events in that game are a blur but, I thought I played well. Ged Brannan and a young Lee McCulloch helped me through the ninety minutes.

That strip is the only one I have framed up on my wall, it means so much to me.
