SIR KENNY DALGLISH
Kenny Dalglish is regarded as the greatest ever Scottish player with a glittering trophy laden career for both Celtic and Liverpool.
King Kenny played over 300 times for Celtic, and won every domestic honour the Scottish game had to offer before heading south to join Liverpool, in a then British record transfer fee of £440,000. Many critics wondered if Dalglish was good enough to fill the no7 shirt vacated by Kevin Keegan in the summer of 1977. The answer was emphatically delivered at the end of his first season with 31 goals in 62 games, the pinnacle was his winning goal in the 1978 European cup final win over Bruges at Wembley.
By the time Kenny had made his last appearance for Liverpool on the 5th May 1990 against Derby, he had won 6 League titles, 1 FA cup, 4 League cups, 3 European cups and 1 European Super cup in a sterling playing career with the most dominant and successful English side of the 1970’s and 80’s.
Dalglish won 102 caps for Scotland, scoring 30 goals, and played for his country at three World cup finals. He was knighted in 2018 and was awarded the freedom of both the city of Glasgow and Liverpool.
