"It's the board's fault." Peter Martin defends Colby Donovan and Liam Scales and says Celtic's board failed to sign a right back or a centre half, then goes through the rest: Cameron Carter-Vickers "towing a caravan", Auston Trusty, Kieran Tierney, a midfield "totally and utterly decimated", Kasper Høgh as "the Scandinavian Chris Sutton", and a goalkeeper who's "not a Craig Gordon". Look at the way they're playing, Roughy. Look at the players that they've got now at this level. No harm. And I know you've absolutely slaughtered them, right?
But I'm going to defend the boy. Colby Donovan and Liam Scales are players. Colby Donovan can get better. Liam Scales... But they're not the level that the Celtic fans are expecting to play in European football. So that's not their fault.
It's the board's fault for quite simply saying, "We're not going to buy a right back. We're not even going to buy a centre half." We've got a guy who's injury-prone who looks as if he was towing a caravan early on against Ferencvaros and Cameron Carter-Vickers. So he's never fit. So suddenly you're relying on him. You don't need a you don't need a centre half. You've got Auston Trusty coming in who quite happily many a European team will say we'll leave him on the ball. We'll get that back shortly.
And then you've got Kieran Tierney who I think Tierney's still a good player but just can't finish 90 minutes most of the time. So there's your back four and then your middle has been totally and utterly decimated.
Now you know you've looked at the quality players that they had who could actually get involved in a high press. That's gone now. Nygren lets players run off him. He scores goals but he's still suspect in the middle of the park. Mika Baur is a young guy who clearly is joining a team that's now bereft of the quality that he craves. Tounekti.
I mean, honestly, I don't know if that boy realises everybody else is playing in hoops because he never finds a guy in the middle of the park. He can't find a striker. And of course, they spent 11 million pounds on a guy who clearly they think they bought the Scandinavian Chris Sutton who just basically can't score goals. I mean, need I go on before I even get to the substitutes. It's staring you in the face.
Go on.
It's just... it's so blatant it defies belief. I mean, you can't.
You've not touched the goalkeeper.
Well, the goalkeeper is just an indication of where they were.
He's not a Craig Gordon. He's not a Hart. He's not a Michael. He doesn't make the big saves. He doesn't make the big saves at this level when you need to make them.
