St Mirren 1-2 Celtic - Celtic grind out a win in a hard fought battle against St Mirren. Celtic came from behind to beat St Mirren 2-1 in Paisley, recovering from a first-half penalty to grind out all three points in a hard-fought Scottish Premiership battle. Liam Scales conceded the spot-kick but made amends with the equaliser, before Yang put Celtic ahead, and a late St Mirren goal was ruled out for offside after a long VAR check. Great credit to Craig McLeish's St Mirren, who made a real game of it.
St Mirren vs Celtic Highlights Transcript:
St Mirren 1, Celtic 2, in a thoroughly entertaining game here in Paisley, and that was very much down to the home side, who made a real game of this. They took the lead in the first half: Chris Mochrie's shot was blocked by the arm of Liam Scales and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Nikolas Agrafiotis and he scored to give St Mirren a half-time lead.
The fightback from Celtic was started by Liam Scales six minutes into the second half: Nygren's corner, the glancing header, and Celtic were level. And then Ryan Carr was caught in possession in the middle of the park, and that allowed Celtic to race away. Yang picked his spot and put Celtic into the lead.
There was a suggestion that VAR and the offside weren't working properly in this game. There was a long wait to see if Mheuka's goal was going to stand deep into injury time. The referee eventually ruled it out for offside. But nonetheless, Celtic come away from Paisley with all three points in a hard-fought battle. Great credit to Craig McLeish's side, they really made a game of this and played some really nice football, but Celtic in the end were able to grind it out. It finished St Mirren 1, Celtic 2.
