Celtic Civil War: Rumours Shaun Maloney Picks the Team, Not Martin O'Neill - The panel compares Celtic's current turmoil to Ally McCoist's Rangers press conferences, where McCoist felt like a diplomat avoiding the real issues. On The Football Show, Peter Martin compares Celtic now with Ally McCoist's Rangers: Martin O'Neill and Callum McGregor answering questions about everything but the football (the Green Brigade staying away, "random tactics"), and the "wild Chinese whispers" that Shaun Maloney picks the team, which Peter calls "a snowball of misinformation". (Recorded before Sunday's 2-0 win at Fir Park.)

Do you know what it reminds me of, Tam? It reminds me of when Rangers were at that point where Ally McCoist was the manager, and they were just defusing bombs right, left and centre. And I can remember saying to Ally McCoist, I don't think I've ever been at a press conference where you've actually talked about the game. And he said he felt as if he was literally like some kind of diplomat explaining the policy of his country, and it was very, very difficult. You know, obviously you can have your own opinion on the whole Rangers debacle, but when you're a manager, you're trying to focus. Like today, you know, Callum McGregor's there speaking. Martin O'Neill, as Gordon has alluded to, is having to talk about things other than the football, and other than the fact that Celtic are actually going to be playing in a game against Motherwell at Fir Park, which brings its own problems. But quite simply, you've got the civil war, you've got now fans who are not going to go to games, you've got Callum McGregor trying to explain to a reporter what random tactics were all about and why people said that. And then you've got people saying... then you've got the background of what I call the tittle-tattle and the wild Chinese whispers, which is basically Shaun Maloney's picking the team, Shaun Maloney's dictating what the tactics are. No, Martin's not there, he's not got the last word on this, somebody else is making the signings, and suddenly it becomes a snowball of misinformation.
