Good afternoon from Tannadice, where it's a new dawn for visitors Motherwell as manager Michael Wimmer takes his place in the dugout for the first time since succeeding Stuart Kettlewell, who resigned just over three weeks ago.
The German, in his first press conference, stated that the goal this season is to secure a top-six finish, and that certainly seems achievable given the tightly packed middle of the Scottish Premiership — with just seven points separating fourth and ninth place.
However, he inherits one of the most out-of-form teams in Scottish football, with the Steelmen having lost five of their last six games in all competitions.
And what a welcome it is to Scottish football today, as he brings his side to Tannadice to take on a very canny Jim Goodwin and his Dundee United side. The times I've seen them this season, they haven't perhaps played the prettiest football, but they’ve certainly been functional — and it’s worked wonders since coming up from the Championship last season.
That said, they too are currently out of form, having lost four of their last five matches in all competitions.
As for this season's head-to-head, Motherwell have already won two of their games against Dundee United in the 2024/25 campaign. If they were to complete the hat-trick today, it would mark the first time they've beaten United in all three fixtures since the 2004/2005 season — making it 20 years since they last achieved that feat.
How will Michael Wimmer fare in his first game as Motherwell manager? I’ll keep you up to date across PLZ Soccer’s YouTube channel and all our social media platforms.
Kick-off here at Tannadice is at 3 p.m.
