Jim Goodwin speaks to the media after Dundee United's disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Aberdeen, as the manager pulls no punches in his assessment of a performance that fell well short of the standards he expects.
Goodwin contrasts the display with United's standout performance against Dundee in the first game after the split, acknowledging that the squad has struggled to replicate that level of intensity with seventh place already the prize on offer. He is honest about the challenge of motivating players at this stage of the season, but is equally clear that professionalism demands more — particularly with a loyal travelling support who made the journey north.
The Dundee United manager also covers:
Why the Dundee derby performance set the benchmark and how the squad has failed to match it since
His disappointment for the travelling United fans who deserved far more
A frank assessment of the first half, describing it as having completely passed his side by
The difficult conversations and big decisions ahead this summer
Player-by-player talks planned for next week as Goodwin begins shaping his squad for next season
"We are professionals. We're paid good money to go out there and perform — and we didn't give the fans much for their money this afternoon."
