David Gray Reacts to Hibs' 3-1 Win Over Dundee United | Post-Match Interview
💪 Impactful Substitutes & Resilient Performance
Hibernian interim manager David Gray praised his squad after a crucial 3-1 victory over Dundee United, highlighting the impact of his substitutes and the team’s ability to grind out results even when not at their best.
🗣 "The team that starts is never the team that finishes, and tonight was the perfect example of why everyone has to be ready. The subs came on and impacted the game in a really positive way, which is exactly what you want."
Gray acknowledged the quality moment that led to the winning goal, a brilliant move and finish that helped Hibs secure three massive points.
🗣 "We weren’t as sharp as we have been in recent weeks, but that was one moment of real quality. The timing of the run, the pass, and the finish were brilliant."
Junior also added the icing on the cake with a late goal, sealing the win and maintaining Hibs' strong momentum in the league.
📊 Hibs Closing in on European Qualification
Gray emphasized that his squad is fully focused on climbing the table, with Aberdeen now just one point ahead as they push for European spots.
🗣 "The challenge before the game was simple – can we catch the team ahead of us? We've done that tonight, and now we’re one point behind Aberdeen. That’s the mindset – keep pushing forward."
He also highlighted the strong bond between the players and fans, noting the massive support from the travelling Hibs supporters.
🗣 "The fans have been incredible all season, sticking with us even in difficult times. You saw the connection again tonight – they were behind us from the first minute, and the players showed their appreciation at full-time."
📢 Winning When Not at Their Best
While delighted with the three points, Gray admitted the performance wasn’t at its peak, but praised the squad for finding different ways to win.
🗣 "We know we can play better, but what impressed me is the resilience, the character, and the winning mentality in this group. You don’t go on a run like we have without those qualities."
Hibs have now built serious momentum, putting themselves in a strong position for European football next season.
🗣 "The goal was always to cement our place in the top six. We’ve given ourselves a great opportunity, but the league is so tight that every game is crucial."
🏆 Massive Edinburgh Derby Coming Up
With a huge derby match approaching, Gray acknowledged that form often goes out the window in these heated encounters, but believes Hibs are in a much stronger place than when they last faced Hearts.
🗣 "Derbies take care of themselves. It’s about who turns up on the day, and both teams are in better shape than the last time we met. It has all the ingredients for a great game."
