How do you turn an ice rink into a football pitch in time for the SPFL Tennent's Sixes? Peter Martin goes behind the scenes at the Braehead Arena with Jamie Blamire of Sportex as the new surface goes down for this weekend's tournament (Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October).
Plastic tiles over the ice, a foam shock pad, and a non-infill 4G carpet with no sand or rubber crumb (Europe's microplastics rules are phasing out rubber granules), plus how the joints are taped and glued so you won't see the seams, why it's built to be rolled up and used again for years, and why moulded studs will give Gary Harkins and the other skilful players the grip they want.
