'Luke McCowan is not the problem. The problem is the board.'
Peter Martin answers a viewer on Celtic's selection, why Luke McCowan starts ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain, why he thinks McCowan will be sold in January, and why none of it matters next to a board he calls shambolic and in need of a complete clear-out.
Transcript:
Jack Newland says, "Martin has to explain how Luke McCowan, who's been cast out as a nomad, starts when Oxlade-Chamberlain, who's been decent this season, ends up getting no game time." Jack, I have to agree with you. It's such a pertinent point. I mean, I thought Oxlade-Chamberlain gave them a bit of creativity in the middle of the park. He hasn't had a sniff in the last four or five weeks.
And I think he's a far better player than Luke McCowan. I don't understand why he's not on the park. I have to say in January, I think Luke McCowan will be offloaded. I don't think he's at a standard of a Celtic player.
No harm to the boy. He's a big Celtic fan, but I just don't think he's good enough. But to be honest with you, the level that Celtic have dropped to, is he good enough to play in this haphazard poor uh Celtic side? Probably at the moment, yes, because they are nowhere near champions.
They will not win the league with this mob. Uh the the players are so inept and you know, Luke McCowan is not the problem. The problem, as I've highlighted, goes back to January of 2025. This board is shambolic.
They need a complete clear out until Celtic get a new owner and get Dermot Desmond out the door. They will continue to have this nightmare scenario. It's just unfolding one day, one week, one month, one year after another. Their strategy is faulty.
It is all about accountancy and nothing about ambition. And that's why you've got a good Rangers side now looking as if it's going to get better. Is able to come to Celtic Park and limit them to one shot on target and they could have had three or four goals. And I I think the Celtic fans are in for a lot of pain coming up and equally for Rangers.
