Martin O'Neill on where it went wrong for Celtic in the 3-0 Old Firm defeat to Rangers - a physically strong Rangers, dealing with the three at the back, and too many misplaced passes in comfortable possession. A big test to come next Sunday.
Martin O'Neill Post Match (Rangers vs Celtic):
Did did that surprise you?
Um not. And I didn't. You mean us being second best? Yeah.
Well, I think I think it is. I think that you can go on. You can win uh you can win some games which we've been doing domestically. It's been and fine. We keep we found a way to win a couple of matches uh which were difficult for us. I felt you know St Johnstone and St Mirren games were but um yeah yeah yeah we were um beaten today but uh yeah did Rangers surprise me no I think they're I think they're strong I think they're physically physically strong and uh yeah so it'll be a big test for us next Sunday.
Again in every aspect you said that Rangers didn't surprise you in terms of their commitment effort levels but were you surprised that they went with three at the back and you think not not necessary Yeah, I think you have to yeah, you have to be able to deal with it.
You deal with um any sort of permutation that the opposition put in front of you. That's their their their prerogative to do exactly that. And uh so yeah, we I don't I'm not so sure it's always to do about systems. That's uh sometimes it sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.
But if you do misplace a lot of passes, you know, when you're comforted when you have comfortable possession, I don't think that's good to do with with the systems. myself I think and we did misplace a lot of passes today um when we were comfortable when and choosing the wrong option when we were on the counterattack.
