Alan Forrest’s second half header helped Hearts to a 1-0 victory over Ross County in Dingwall this afternoon.
Forrest headed in from fellow substitute Alex Lowry’s cross to provide the only goal of the game to lift Hearts to 4th in the cinch Premiership.
Steven Naismith’s side lacked imagination in the first half, but his inspired early second half substitutions were able to combine to win the match for the Jambos.
Ross County are now winless in four matches and have slipped to 11th in the league table, but manager Malky Mackay thought his side deserved more from today’s game. He said:
“We’ve had a tough week, we’ve had three defeats in a week.
“Number 1, the first thing you do is recognise that and actually see it for what it is and don’t brush it under the carpet.
“If anybody suggests we weren’t worthy of a point here… then there’s a balanced view to that as well.
“I’ve got to just have a perspective on it as well, but at the same time, we need to get back onto the training field and get back into it. We’ve been here before.”
Hearts finish this week with two important away wins from two matches before preparing for next week’s Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle.
Manager Steven Naismith is pleased with his side’s form ahead of the derby. He added:
“The bigger picture is, we’ve went through a period where we’ve had a win, we’ve maybe had a draw then lost. We’ve not had that consistency.
Now we’ve got two back-to-back away wins which is a great place to be in going into a derby game. It is a brilliant game to play next week.”
