Scotland have booked their place in Euro 2024 after Spain defeated Norway 1-0 on Sunday night.

The Dark Blues failed to beat Spain to gain the point they needed on Thursday night but just three days later the Spanish team secured Scotland’s passage to Germany.

Here we look at five Scotland heroes who played a key role in the Scots booking a spot at Euro 2024.

ANDY ROBERTSON

Scotland captain Andy Robertson has led the nation in their charge to another major finals

Scotland captain Andy Robertson led the nation, alongside Steve Clarke, to Euro 2021 after 23 years without qualification for a major tournament.

Now the Liverpool left back will lead Scotland out in Germany next summer at Euro 2024

The former Dundee Utd defender’s leadership skills have been vital in the journey to the country’s second straight European Championships.

Although the left back did pick up a nasty shoulder injury in the 2-0 defeat to Spain.

Will the 29-year-old skipper lead Scotland to the knockout stages?

JOHN MCGINN

Scotland and Aston Villa star John McGinn has played a vital role in the journey to EURO 2024

Scotland’s midfield is packed with top flight talent and Aston Villa captain ‘Super’ John McGinn plays a key role in that area of the pitch.

With 16 Scotland goals to his name, the former Hibs favourite is tipped to reach the illustrious 20 goal mark, becoming just the fifth Scot to do so.

Only Denis Law, Kenny Dalglish, Hughie Gallacher and Lawrie Reilly can boast that record.

John McGinn is now seventh in Scotland’s all-time scoring chart. Will the midfielder rise even further up the scoring ranks in Germany?

SCOTT MCTOMINAY

Scott McTominay’s goals were key to Scotland’s qualification journey over the last two years

Scott McTominay has been on fire in the dark blue of Scotland, with the Manchester Utd midfielder netting six times in the journey to Germany.

While firing into the net for Scotland, the 26-year-old has played a bit-part role for the English Premier League side under Erik Ten Hag.

The 43 time capped Scotland hero’s most notable contributions have been doubles against Cyprus and Spain at home, adding to the goals against Georgia at home and Cyprus away.

He as denied a wonder strike against Spain after he scored direct from a free-kick, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR in controversial circumstances.

Who would bet against the Premier League ace adding to his tally in Germany next summer?

ANGUS GUNN

Angus Gunn has been a stalwart in goal for the nation since making his debut earlier this year

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn only made his Scotland debut in March and has conceded just once in five games – an Erling Haaland penalty against Norway.

The Norwich City stopper has made a seamless transition since following in his father’s footsteps by choosing Scotland over England.

With Craig Gordon yet to feature for Hearts this season after spending months on the sidelines, Gunn is in pole position to be between the sticks in Germany next summer.

CALLUM MCGREGOR

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor has played a vital role for his country under Steve Clarke

Celtic’s trophy-laden captain has more than earned his place on the list of Scotland’s key players.

The Hoops icon has earned 55 caps, scoring 3 goals in his time with Scotland, but it’s his leadership skills that have impressed for his country.

He may not wear the armband on the pitch for the Dark Blues, but the 30-year-old midfielder still leads by example.

Will the decorated Parkhead ace add to his list of career achievements by winning a group stage game in a major finals?
