Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic faces a lengthy spell out after tearing a ligament in his right knee.

The 24-year-old Croatia international suffered the injury in training.

“Josip Stanisic will be sidelined for several weeks after the Bayern defender tore a collateral ligament in his right knee in training on Monday,” read a club statement.

“This was the result of an examination by FC Bayern’s medical department.”

The club added on X: “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Stani.”

Stanisic spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, helping Bayern’s rivals to a German league and cup double.

He is set to miss the start of Bayern’s Bundesliga and Champions League campaign, as well as Croatia’s opening two Nations League games in Portugal on September 5 and at home to Poland three days later.
