Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that Auston Trusty is set to be unveiled by Celtic.

Wilder used his pre-match press conference to provide an update on the situation with the left-sided centre-back set to be announced in the final hours of the window.

The 24-year-old central signed a four-year contract with Sheffield United from Arsenal in August 2023 after spending a season on loan at Birmingham City.

“I’m under the impression that nobody will be going out and nobody will be coming in,” said Wilder. “We’ll be working with the group we’ve got.”

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was inevitably coy on confirming the deal had been done but insisted that he remains confident his side will be stronger coming out of the window than they were going into it.

“I never want to speak when the process is still in place but we have a number of transactions going on behind the scenes,” said Rodgers.

“We hope to close out the window in a really positive way. We always said we wanted to finish today stronger than when we entered into it and I am positive that we can do that.

“There are a number of things we are looking at and hopefully we can do that. Hopefully this evening we can be in a good place and have that depth that we want.

“The intentions of the club are always there. We want to keep progressing and if we can sign someone that is a regular player in the Bundesliga then it’s that support that the team need. The team deserve good players to come in and challenge them and make us better as a whole. I am really confident we can close the market this evening in a good way.

“Throughout the day there are loads of names and lots of work going on.”
