Former Aberdeen winger Niall McGinn recalls the best years of his career were spent with the Pittodrie side. McGinn spent nine years as a red where he performed regularly for a short time under Craig Brown and then Derek McInnes who took the reigns in 2013.

McGinn also spent time at Celtic  before moving to the Granite city. At just 21 years old McGinn would sign for the Glasgow giants winning the  Scottish Cup in 2010/2011 as well as feature in five Europa League matches under Tony Mowbury and later, Neil Lennon.

McGinn’s international call up came in 2008 and says one of his most memorable moments came in a Northern Ireland jersey.

‘There’s a lot that comes into my head straight away. I think being back in Ireland and playing for Northern Ireland and scoring at the Euros in 2016, that was a big moment for me internationally.

‘That the first time Northern Ireland has qualified for a major tournament in 30 years. To play in a tournament and qualify for the last 16 and to obviously score.

‘The opportunity to play for a big club like Celtic, a world wide club was a dream come true  for me and making my debut too.

‘Regarding the football side of things,  Aberdeen was the best and most enjoyable time of my career where I enjoyed my football and scoring lots of goals and to be involved in a lot of good teams. And to be always competing for trophies or European football.

‘The proudest moment was always Aberdeen, being there for 8/9 years. Domestically playing in Scottish football they were always huge moments for me’.
