Rangers should have been awarded a penalty against St Johnstone, according to the latest SFA Key Match Incident Review Panel.
The Ibrox side won 2-0 on Sunday evening, however referee David Dickinson failed to award Rangers a penalty when Cyriel Dessers had his shirt pulled as a Rangers corner was floated into the box.
They claimed Dickinson was wrong to miss the incident while VAR were wrong not to flag it up.
“The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (4:1) deeming the onfield decision incorrect,” read their report.
“The panel believed that the prolonged shirt pull from the defender impeded the attacking player’s movement towards the ball. One panelist believed that the referee was correct not to award a penalty kick. The majority (4:1) believed VAR was incorrect not to intervene and a penalty kick should have been awarded after OFR.”
They also said that St Johnstone’s ‘goal’ from Nicky Clark was correctly ruled offside.
The panel ruled that VAR was correct to award Ross County a penalty against Celtic for Liam Scales’ handball – which had been missed by referee Kevin Clancy – and also said it was right for it to order a retake after Kasper Schmeichel came off his line prematurely.
