Paris St Germain had to settle for a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League after being denied a last-gasp penalty by VAR.

Noa Lang gave the Dutch champions a surprise 34th-minute lead with a fine strike from 20 yards out, but Achraf Hakimi levelled after the interval.

PSG were awarded a stoppage-time spot-kick when Marco Asensio went tumbling over after a tackle from Olivier Boscagli, but referee Glenn Nyberg reversed his decision after consulting with VAR Stuart Attwell.

PSG, beaten by Arsenal last time out, are now on four points after three games in this season’s revamp of Europe’s elite club competition, with PSV still searching for their first victory.

Lee Kang-In went close early on, but his effort clawed away by PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez, while Ousmane Dembele rattled the top of the bar from close range as the hosts started brightly.

Dembele then blazed over from a decent position and PSG’s inability to take their chances came back to haunt them as PSV took the lead against the run of play.

Joao Neves’ careless pass in his own half to Dembele was cut out by Guus Til, with Ismael Saibari freeing Lang, who cut on to his right foot and rifled low into the near corner past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

PSG responded well to going behind as Fabian Ruiz then Dembele saw shots kept out at the beginning of the second half by Benitez – who was caught out as Hakimi levelled in the 55th minute.

There looked to be little danger when the Morocco full-back let fly from distance, but the ball whistled between Benitez’s legs as the Parc des Princes erupted in celebration.

PSV, though, should have retaken the lead as Til beat the offside trap to bear down on goal on the counter.

But instead of shooting, his attempt to pass to Luuk de Jong was intercepted by Marquinhos as the chance went begging.

At the other end, Hakimi was causing trouble down the right and after weaving into space in the area, another effort whistled across goal and went narrowly wide.

PSG continued to look for the winner and it seemed they might be rewarded when Nyberg pointed to the spot after substitute Asensio went down under Boscagli’s challenge from behind.

However, Attwell instructed Nyberg to review the decision – which was overturned after replays showed Boscagli had won the ball.

Marquinhos might have claimed the points in the dying seconds, but his bullet header was parried by Benitez.
