Harry Kane took his Bundesliga season scoring tally into double figures for the season with two goals and an assist in Bayern Munich’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Union Berlin.
The England captain converted a penalty for his 10th of the German top-flight season to open the scoring in the 15th minute at the Allianz Arena.
Kane then turned provider for Kingsley Coman before the break, the Frenchman’s strike his third goal in as many consecutive Bundesliga games.
The hosts extended their lead when Kane tapped in his second six minutes after the restart to make it 47 goals in 41 league appearances since signing for Vincent Kompany’s side last summer.
Bayern dominated possession from kick-off and won a clear penalty when Benedict Hollerbach sent former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise tumbling.
Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow dove in the right direction but was beaten by Kane with a lovely finish to the bottom left.
Hollerbach was visibly frustrated when Jeong Woo-yeong’s under-hit pass denied him a chance to draw the sides level.
It was not until the 34th minute that the visitors finally called Bayern shot-stopper Manuel Neuer into action for the first time.
Bayern lost the ball deep inside their own half and it fell at the feet of American Jordan Pefok, who forced Neuer into an alert fingertip save.
Olise did well to cleverly control the ball at the other end of the pitch but fired well over.
After a brief pause to treat Rani Khedira, who had tangled with Dayot Upamecano, the Union midfielder was deemed fit to continue.
It was a team goal that resulted in Coman doubling Bayern’s lead in the 43rd minute, ending in a fine touch from Kane to tee up his team-mate for a finessed finish into the far corner.
Bayern shouted for a Hollerbach handball soon after the restart, their protests quickly dismissed by the referee, before Kane bagged his brace in the 51st minute.
Coman sent the ball across the face of goal for Kane to tap home, Bayern’s third goal standing after a VAR check for offside and some brief confusion as to whether or not it was in fact Jamal Musiala who got the final touch.
The hosts were hungry for more and had their chances via Leroy Sane and Musiala before Vincent Kompany rang a host of change, including a Bundesliga debut for 18-year-old Adam Aznou in the 81st minute.
Kane pressed on in his hunt for a seventh Bundesliga hat-trick but his best effort at a late fourth never looked close to going in, while none of his team-mates could find the finishing touch on a number of late chances.
