Celtic opened up an 18-point gap at the top of the table after a late flurry of goals gave them all three points from a freezing trip top Dingwall.

A penalty on the hour mark from Jordan White had cancelled out Kyogo Furhuashi’s first-half opener before the Japanese striker netted his second of the game with nine minutes of regulation time remaining.

Arne Engels then netted a penalty in added time – retaken after Ross County keeper Jordan Amissah had come off his line – before Luke McCowan added Celtic’s fourth deep into added time.

Celtic were dominant in the opening period but had to wait until four minutes before the break when Kyogo turned in Alistair Johnston’s inviting ball that cut through the County defence.

The Higlanders had the heroics of Amissah to thank for keeping Celtic at bay as the stopper repelled a double chance from Kyogo.

Johnston was sinner at the other end of the pitch after a foul on Kieran Phillips gave the hosts a penalty, which was dispatched by White for the equaliser.

Kyogo gave Celtic the lead again with a header. Amissah, excellent throughout, got a hand to the effort but could not keep it out.

From there, Celtic turned the score as County tired.

Engels’ penalty – awarded following a VAR review of James Brown’s challenge on Hyun-Jun Yang – was saved by Amissah before the spot-kick was retaken because the County keeper was clearly off his line.

Engels stepped up again and fired into the opposite corner, then McCowan made it 4-1 when he popped the ball into the bottom corner.
